With net sales of $125.8 billion generated by amazon.com in 2021, they saw a net sales growth of 8%. Walmart.com ranked number 2 as the biggest U.S. online store bringing in net sales of $46.4 billion which was a 12% increase from 2020.
Coming in at number 3 is apple.com. They increased their net sales by a whopping 78% between 2020 and 2021, resulting in a total of US$25.9 billion. carvana.com surprisingly landed at the 8th spot, garnering 2021 net sales of $9.9 billion. The weakest growth of all stores in the top 10 was Bestbuy.com which saw a reduction in its net sales by 12% between 2020 and 2021.
The United States is one of the largest markets for eCommerce with a revenue of $862 billion which was an increase of 22% from 2020 to 2021, contributing to the worldwide growth rate of 29% in 2021.
According to the Statista Digital Market Outlook, market expansion in the United States is expected to continue over the next few years. It has been predicted that the compound annual growth rate from 2022-2025 will be 15%. Another indicator of market saturation is the online penetration of 79% in the United States where 79% of the U.S. population has bought at least one product online in 2021.
