Marissa Jack, aka The Golden Hippie, first emerged on the LA scene earlier this year with her channeling of the haunting choral styles of Florence Welch and pop sensibilities that have garnered her comparisons to Charli XCX. After years behind the scenes flexing her songwriting prowess she joined Prince as a featured vocalist on “Art Official Cage,” the lead track off Prince’s newly released album, Art Official Age.  She spent this spring joining him on his Hit and Run tour, before releasing her breakout debut track, “Smoke Signals.”  Marissa’s transformation and drive were detailed in her feature interview in Interview Magazine.

Today The Golden Hippie reveals an intimate look at her full EP, Flowers on the Sun, through a live performance.

Nylon premiered The Golden Hippie’s newest official video for  “Dancing Glorious,” a full blown pop video from directors Eric Ulbrich and Kylie Eaton complete with gender bending dancers and strobes to accompany the driving dance ballad.  BULLETT Magazine describes “Dancing Glorious” as “a peppy yet soulful song.” “Dancing Glorious” is featured on The Golden Hippie’s debut EP, Flowers On The Sun, which was released by Hundred Handed earlier this year.  See below for full tracklisting.

“Her new project is a bold escape from the expectations and opinions of others telling her what her music should sound like or what her image needs to be.” Interview Magazine

“Featuring beats that appear to ricochet off each other, the vocals, tinged with just the right amount of rasp, weave together all of the track’s funk-centric instruments seamlessly” – Nylon

“Dancing Glorious” is a peppy yet soulful song with a hard snare beat and bulbous chorus.”BULLETT

“Each track she releases crescendoes from the last offering fresh beats, groundbreaking lyrical couplings and imagery, stirring inspirational messages, and some of the best vocals of 2014” – AXS

“Her vocals soar over huge, thundering drums and an almost tribal rhythm. There’s a raw wildness about this song…. It’s beautiful and haunting and just the right soundtrack for one of those big, powerful end of summer storms” The Most Definitely

“Can’t quite put my finger on it, but this song is so addicting…slowly evolving into a more rebellious sounding Charli XCX”  – Mostly Junk Food

“There are times when an artist comes along and completely alters the path of the current trends.” … “Mark my words, the release of Smoke Signals is the sign of a new frontier filled with bold soundscapes and meaningful lyrics endorsing empowerment and individuality.” – The Record Stache

“It’s a song that reverberates with conviction and confidence, fleshed out with a fantastic blend of dark alt pop and R&B tendencies. The power builds up slowly over time, developing an intense feeling of pent up, bold energy. It’s quite exhilarating.” –  iHeartMoosiq
