On Saturday, August 10th, I had the pleasure of attending the Black Business Association of Memphis’ “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” event at AutoZone Park, during the Memphis Redbirds’ special Memphis Red Sox night—a celebration of our rich Negro League history. As the Redbirds took on the Gwinnett Stripers, the evening was more than just a game; it was a gathering of some of the most influential figures in Memphis’ black business community and local government.
Representing WigiThread LLC at this significant event was both an honor and a valuable opportunity. It felt great to rub shoulders with the who’s who of Memphis, including leaders who are not just making waves in business but also shaping the future of our city. The Black Business Association is currently undergoing some exciting rebranding efforts, and the energy in the air was palpable—an inspiring reminder that the future is bright for black-owned businesses in Memphis.
One of the highlights of the evening was finally meeting Memphis Mayor Paul Young. His leadership and commitment to our community is truly inspiring. I also had the pleasure of meeting Shelby County Commission Chairman Mickell Lowery, whose work in local government has been instrumental in supporting the growth of small businesses like mine. Additionally, connecting with Marcus Taylor, my frat brother of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., from WQOX 88.5 The Voice of MSCS was great, and I look forward to potential collaborations that could amplify the voices of small black businesses in our community. Last but not least, I had the honor of meeting Mr. Standley Brady, Business Certification Manager for the city of Memphis. It was good to hear his vision for the future of black businesses in Memphis.
I must extend a special thank you to Antonio Jones, CEO of Rough Feathers Clothing Company, for the invite. Antonio’s vision for black entrepreneurship aligns perfectly with the values of WigiThread LLC, and I’m excited about the potential partnerships that could arise from our shared passion for empowering our community.
This event underscored the importance of local small black businesses in Memphis. These businesses are not just economic engines; they are the backbone of our communities, providing jobs, fostering creativity, and ensuring that the wealth generated in our neighborhoods stays within our neighborhoods. At WigiThread LLC, we are all about unity—about bringing people together to create something greater than the sum of our parts. Events like this remind me why I started this journey: to build something that uplifts not just my business but also the community that supports it.
As I look ahead, I am more fired up than ever about the future of WigiThread LLC. The connections made and the conversations had at this event have only reinforced my belief that we are on the brink of something truly special. I can’t wait to see what’s next for my company and for the vibrant community of black entrepreneurs in Memphis.
Stay tuned, because the best is yet to come.
“Love seeing WigiThread LLC making such a positive impact in the community! Their dedication to supporting Black-owned businesses is truly inspiring. Keep shining!”
